“Relevance of catering to the needs of every student in the classroom”

“Relevance of catering to the needs of every student in the classroom”

“ Without relevance, important concepts also might be seen as unnecessary”

Many assumptions behind every phrase…..

The present day lifestyle is very challenging, has high expectations and always wants all in one approach.  The present generation of children are expected to cater to the needs of the society being an all rounder. These expectations have burdened the shoulders of young children with the assumptions about tomorrow, somewhere or the other, we are also a part of this expectation game.

And definitely it is our responsibility to cater to their needs now and make them meet our expectations for the future, and this has to first start from a facilitator. The present day World situation has made it more difficult, but as a facilitator, we all have tried to overcome this stage too

being together.

We all would have heard children ask the question, “when will I ever use this concept in the real world?” and honestly we all should spend some time thinking about this.  Every student needs self-knowledge, inspirational model and modelling strategies, creative spaces and tools, ideas and audience, a chance to practice as many chances as it takes to play.

Bernard truly said “If a student does not believe a particular activity is interesting, relevant, or within the scope of his capabilities, it’s probably not going to sink in”

Relevance of the content could be established through showing how theory can be applied in practice, establishing relevance to local cases, and relating material to everyday life.  Giving more and more examples of real life instances. Many times I made students become a part of the content, so that they get deeply involved in the teaching, placing themselves into the situations and more relating it to real life.

Students could easily become demotivated if they could not see the relevance of theoretical material in real life, since they had chosen a professional program in the expectation that it would prepare them well for their future career.

Since relevance of the content is one of the most important aspects of teaching and learning, I know that even I, as a student, found most relevant information was the easiest to learn, so as a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to help students see the relevance in content they may not find inherently interesting.  I know that if I do this, my students will engage in class and be motivated to work outside the class too.

Ways to provide relevance of teaching and learning for students are with utility, value and relatedness, only then the content will directly go into their heart. Fulfilling students' need for relatedness shows how effectively unrelated content fits together and then into their own schemes of things, and giving students a real reason why today’s content will be useful to them later on, is all a good way to provide relevance of content for students.  We can help students discover that what we teach is actually interesting and worth knowing.

I understood only one thing for Professional achievement: “Respect the differences in every child, and help them grow on their own different capabilities, only then the present World will become a better place for future generations.”
